Kyl roundup: Immigration reform, Democrat unpopularity, gas

  • Jon Kyl seeks legislation to protect people who report suspected terrorists. “If you see something, you should say something, and not have to worry about being sued.” [Washington Times]
  • “After seeming to side with Sen. Kyl [on immigration reform], the White House has appeared more open to at least elements of the Democratic approach.” [WSJ]
  • John McCain “has handed off day-to-day negotiations on immigration” to Kyl and Sen. Lindsey Graham. [Washington Post]
  • “Congress Is Still Unpopular in various nat’l polls and the Senate Conf. Chair, Jon Kyl (R-Ariz.), wants to make sure it’s because the Dems haven’t gotten anything done. In a memo to colleagues (and leaked to the Post), Kyl’s shop notes, ‘The surveys show increasing public frustration with the Democrat Congress’ inability to pass substantive legislation.’” [MSN]
  • Kyl wonders: where is the bipartisan solution on skyrocketing gas prices? [National Ledger]

The only frustration has been not impeaching Bush.

All the Dems need to do by the election is end the Iraq occupation and keep the Neocon nutjobs in the whitehouse from starting another war.

Funny how Bush could make the gas price go down to $2 before the last election, and take the credit, now that want to blame the Dems when it goes to $4 a Gal?

That’s great. Create a culture of paranoia, suspend habeus corpus and then when someone is wrongly harassed, or worse, detained without cause, make sure the victim cannot be compensated for being wrongly accused.

Immigration: The last best hope for Shrub’s legacy. But he’ll screw it up by allowing Kyl and Huckleberry Graham to handle the negotiations. McCain is totally taking the chicken route by staying out of it so he doesn’t piss off the Freepers.

Congress Popularity: Congress is never popular but look at the disapproval when Kyl’s party was in charge at the end of last year. 74% DISAPPROVE compared to 58% in April for the Dems. The 109th congress worked the fewest days of any Congress in History and did ZERO oversight. Kyl can hardly be proud of his record.

I liked him better as the stealth candidate.

If last I remember oil was up because of 1) Nigeria’s political unrest 2) Two of the five major refinaries are operating at half capacity due to maintenance issues 3) We simply need more refinaries

Tacna, Arizona. Arizona Clean Fuels has been trying to build a small refinery outside Yuma for almost 10 years. It took five years just to get air-quality permits. Now they hope to be operational in 2010, 15 years after they started the project.
