From the Arizona Republic:
Momentum is growing on Capitol Hill for immigration-reform legislation that would require some undocumented immigrants to leave the country to apply for citizenship.
The provision, known as “touchback,” is increasingly seen as a way to garner more conservative support and deflect the politically damaging charge that lawmakers are providing amnesty for people who have broken the law.
“We recognize that touchback is a powerful political statement,” said Rep. Jeff Flake, R-Ariz., co-sponsor of a bipartisan comprehensive reform bill that is expected to be introduced Thursday.
Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., once cool to the idea of touchback, is keeping an open mind. Running for president, he has met stiff opposition to illegal immigration among GOP voters.
…
“The touchback provision is not my idea, but for many, it’s critical to the immigration reform bill,” said Rep. Gabrielle Giffords, D-Ariz., who said she won’t oppose an otherwise positive bill because of it.

Looks like Sheriff Joe has his own idea of ‘Touch-back’. What I was told from one of his ‘clients’, If you go to his jail and can’t prove your a citizen, you get deported.
Now if we can only do the same with the New Orleans “Victims” that came here and run up our crime rate.
Flake actually had the tenacity to state on Lou Dobbs that the people who perform the touch back would be put at the “back of the line” – behind all of the law-abiders who are waiting for green cards.
By Flake’s demented definition, you are at the “back of the line” if you are permitted to remain in the US for years while sailing on the “path to ctizenship” – even after you broke US law by sneaking over the border or oversyaing a visa, and most likely commiting a felony (identity theft) to obtain employment. So who is at the “front of the line”? People who have been patiently waiting (and will continue to wait for years) in their home country.
So if you break the law, you go to the “back of the line” but get to stay here. If you play by the rules, you are at the “front of the line” but have to remain in your home country until your paperwork gets processed many years from now.
Why hasn’t anyone proposed that the “path to citizenship” include serving felony time if you stole a Social Security number to obtain employment? The thought that the crime of identity theft would not follow these people is gut-wrenching.
Never before in US history has a Congressman been more appropriately named than Mr. Flake. I’m sure he’s looking forward to a future Senator Numbnuts to divert some attention.
I wondered what “touch-back” meant. It becomes clearer now. Not one of these politicians understand what the back of the line means — waiting it out in your own country until your turn comes. I have an acquaintenance who’s a doctor in India who is “waiting her turn”. It’s been 4 years now and she would be a productive citizen here in our country. Why should illegals — who have nothing to offer society other than to be hired by disreputable businesses, have the nerve to march on our streets knowing full well that they won’t be arrested even though they’re breaking the law. The have the nerve to wave Mexican flags and milk our healthcare and school systems and fill our jails and then be given special privileges with the promise of legality. It isn’t fair and the taxpayers won’t stand for it any longer. Give it up Flake, McCain and others like you who really want amnesty — again. Didn’t work then and it won’t work now. There are more and more of the silent majority who are going to be speaking up loud and clear to our elected officials. Listen to your consituents.
