John McCain says the fall elections will largely be about Iraq rather than local issues, “predicted Republicans will retain control of the Senate but said it is too early to tell if they can keep the House.” [AP]- McCain turns 70 on Tuesday. No one older than 70 has ever moved into the White House; Reagan was 69 when he was elected. [McClatchy]
- McCain is heading to Greenland, Turkey, Georgia, Montenegro and Italy to observe the effects of global warming. He’s made these trips before; his delegation this time includes Joseph Lieberman, but not Hillary Clinton. [Business Journal]
- Pork fighter… or not? “The Senate’s self-proclaimed ‘pork buster,’ Senator John McCain (R-AZ), has given speech after speech listing pork in defense bills, but he has barely lifted a finger to take real parliamentary action.” [Independent Institute]
- Rush McPillPopper, offended by McCain’s recent comments that America was mislead about Iraq, calls him “Senator McCrazy” and accuses him of “sucking up” to the media.

McCain may not get the fundies, his Straight Talk seems to come out of the side of his mouth lately, and the neocons don’t want someone with to many smarts.
I don’t know if the Bush lag has rubbed off on LIMP-Balls yet, but he will be pounding on Senator McCrazy the whole way.
The righties and neocons want someone with very little true morality like Sen. Macaca, or Billy Boy Frist. Just moldable enough to do what their told.

On John McCain possibly being the ‘oldest’ President in history… Technically that is correct, but if you factor in relative life expectancy – there are other Presidents in history that were probably relatively older for the time in which they lived. For example, James Buchanan or Zachary Taylor were 65 and 64 respectively when they took office. But the life expectancy for them at their age, at that time in history (mid-1800s) was probably about 76 years old (a gap of 11-12 years). Correspondingly, John McCain can probably expect to live to 85 according to todays life expectancy rates (and based on his current age). A gap of 13 years. This puts him in the company of other Presidents, such as John Adams, Andrew Jackson – and probably even Reagan.
I’m not saying that McCain isn’t old, he is a twitchy old codger who looks like his breath smells – but history has probably had ‘older’ Presidents.
